“Every person is unique and has a story to tell”.
When asked about where the inspiration for his hairstyles comes from, Potenciano Smith admits that it’s the clients themselves that provide him the creative fuel that he needs to come up with ideas.
“One of the most important things for me when cutting hair is to enhance the person. I believe it is our job to interpret everything from their style to their character to their features and to tailor-make it into their hair.”
The Kent native has come a long way since the beginning of his career in a small town salon, now working with some of the biggest hairdressing names and brands in the UK and internationally. However, despite all that, Potenciano manages to conserve a refreshing humour and spontaneity:
“I once was performing on stage at the Freemason’s building in London. We previously recorded footage of us the week before pretending to grab people off the street and cutting hair in the middle of Covent Garden. This was shown after we ran off stage pretending that we forgot our models and had to go off and grab some people off the street – live. It was something a bit different in which I had lots of fun with and it was a great reaction from the crowd!”
And his advice to young hairdressers, could also sound like a life motto… “Surround yourself with positive people that inspire you.”
